Awards for Excellence in Work Placement
On Wednesday 19th August in the Grand Ballroom of The Epping Club, the Hills and Hornsby communities celebrated the 8th Annual Hills Schools Industry Partnership Awards for Excellence in Work Placement. Present at the event were award winners and their families, school representatives and a variety of business and community guests. Students from 10 schools and 2 TAFE colleges were awarded for their performances in work placement.

Accessing the Future
During August Hills Schools Industry Partnership put a call out to interested teachers and employers giving them the chance to attend The Accessing the Future: Assistive Technology in Education and Employment Forums for free. Subsequently we sponsored Matthew Smith from Headspace at Mt Druitt. The aim of these two forums was to provide information to people with a disability and service providers in the School, Higher Education and VET, and Employment sectors of the range of assistive technology that is currently out there. How can a school student convince an employer that they're worth employing?
If you've only ever been a school student, you may wonder how to convince a prospective employer that you're worth employing. Even if you've never worked in a paid job, you can demonstrate your potential by using examples of your everyday skills which could be applied in a workplace.
If you haven't ever had a job, you can focus on your potential rather than your existing abilities, giving examples of any particular qualities that you have such as a positive attitude, commitment and the ability to start and finish a task or project. Read More
Positions in the RTA for School Leavers
The RTA is now recruiting for the 2010 intake for Civil Engineering Cadets, Road Designers in Training and business Administration/Government Trainees for selected locations across regional and metropolitan NSW. These programs provide opportunities for young people to gain on-the-job experience and acquire a nationally recognised qualification through structured training and development, while earning a salary. Have you got what it takes?

Thinking about applying for an apprenticeship in the electrotechnology or energy and utilities industries? This online assessment tool has been developed to provide you with an understanding of the language, math and science knowledge and skills you will need when you enter the Electrotechnology trades. There is no pass or fail mark; you will receive a score from each section and advice on how to improve your score if necessary. You can try the assessment as many times as you like until you reach the required level. Visit Pre Apprenticeship Self Assessment Tool and try completing a pre-apprenticeship test.
